THE ALIENS HAVE LANDED.

If the music of Bob Pollard is your addiction, then we’ve got your latest fix: BOSTON SPACESHIPS’ “Camera Found the Ray Gun” EP is now available for pre-order!

This new EP from super group Boston Spaceships (Bob Pollard of Guided by Voices, Chris Slusarenko of Guided by Voices, John Moen of The Decemberists) features all new tracks exclusive to this release! With such a small run (7″ is limited to 500), it’s sure to become coveted ephemera before you can blink. Do you want to look back on your GBV collection later in life and feel the gaping hole left by the lack of this release? We didn’t think so.

Tracks include “The Way Out”, “Rival GT”, “Pluto is Polluted” and “Aquarian Hovercraft”. With an official release date of March 23rd, 2010, all pre-orders will receive a special gift from Off Records.

Previously known strictly as a reissue label, Jackpot Records is excited to host “Camera Found the Ray Gun” as our first intial-run release. We couldn’t be prouder to see our lil’ label growing up so fast. Now, if it would only learn to look both ways before crossing the street…

PRE-ORDER CROMAGNON REISSUE NOW!

Presenting the latest vinyl release from the Jackpot Records label: Cromagnon’s “Cave Rock”!

Originally released in 1969, Cromagnon’s “Cave Rock” strings together a patchwork of untamed
sounds and mental images which perfectly articulate the boundary-breaking psychedelic
revolution that was occurring at the time — musically and socially.

Widely heralded as the best freak-out record of all time, Cromagnon’s “Cave Rock” is a
captivating experience that engages the listener. The album surpassed even the most outthere
psychedelia of its day, predicting what would soon become the disjointed aural
landscapes of Faust and the violent scuzz of Throbbing Gristle. Vivid elements of
Cromagnon’s influence continues to shine in the lysergic rhythms of the Sun City Girls,
Nurse With Wound, Ghost, and Animal Collective.

*NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER! With a release date of February 23, 2010, “Cave Rock” is now available for pre-order with free shipping. (Please note: Due to the way our website is setup, your free shipping will not be processed until after you have checked out. Shipping will be refunded at this time.)

JANDEK AND THURSTON MOORE.

Jackpot Records is super pumped to announce that on Thursday, April 29th we will be presenting a one-time only show with JANDEK AND THURSTON MOORE. Gasp!

Yes, you TOTALLY read that correctly.

In what could be one of the few possible upgrades in both rarity and uniqueness to a live Jandek performance, Thurston Moore will join the legendary Texas recluse for a one-time, on stage collaboration.

Jackpot Records is proud to facilitate this aligning of the planets at the Hollywood Theatre as they did for one of Jandek’s earliest live shows nearly four years ago. That show, also curated by Jackpot Records, sold out and was released on CD to widespread acclaim as the album “Portland Thursday“. The subsequent years have only enhanced clamor and interest in this true outsider musician.

Thurston Moore, front man for Sonic Youth and aficionado of all things reasonably unique, is a dream collaborator, ramping up the possibilities for what this night could bring. This show, like the musicians themselves, is here only once and then gone forever.

Jandek + Thurston Moore. Just let it sink in.
When it’s done sinking in, click here to purchase tickets, which are now on sale.

Minotaur doesn’t like to play nice. Come, observe from afar and see its 5 full-length studio albums on LP an CD, posters, signed large format project art book, it’s smaller project art sibling book, it’s live DVD/Blu-Ray never before released 1991 performance and it’s music videos live in its native environment.

Be cautious, be quiet, then tame the beast and take it home with you.

AN INSTORE WITH THE CRIBS SUN NOV 8th

Unless you’re wintering in Belgium or holding tickets to upcoming Letterman tapings, chances to see the THE CRIBS in person anytime soon are minimal to nil. If this is not sitting well, and it shouldn’t be, simply walk through the door of Jackpot Records on Sunday, November 8th at 2PM.

The Cribs, will be rocking an absolutely free, all ages instore at our downtown location. Topping their previous honor of selecting Jackpot Records as one of three places IN THE WORLD to sell the deluxe Roses Edition (they’ve really taken to their new Portland homes) of their latest album “Ignore The Ignorant”, they’ve picked us as the launch pad for their upcoming tour. After this they’re off to a Letterman taping, a few coast dates and then the world. In all practicality, this is it for seeing them this year.

Come early to find a spot and brace yourself. We predict a swift transition from SRO to SOL. If you’re unfamiliar with a Cribs gig, it’s not exactly an evening with The Chordettes. See you there!

The deets:

Sunday, November 8th // 2 pm // DOWNTOWN: 203 SW 9th. Ave // FREE! // All Ages

RISIN’ UP, STRAIGHT TO THE TOP.

Big thanks to the oh-so-nice boys of Pelican for making it out to our Hawthorne location yesterday to shower our ears with an hour-long, all vinyl DJ set. Echoing our sentiments exactly, one of our regulars asked, “A metal band doing a DJ set? What will they even play?!” Well, we soon discovered that though these dudes may regularly crank it all heavy-like through their amps, their musical prowess extends far beyond their own genre. Their set ranged from Phil Ochs to Black Flag to Stevie Wonder to Motley Crue, and included choice cuts like “Eye of the Tiger.”

In short, AWESOME.

Laurent of Pelican pulls some vinyl for his set.

Trevor of Pelican.

Trevor of Pelican checks out...Emerson, Lake and Palmer?!

In the event you thought these guys were too serious for fun, be it told that they are NOT. Laurent busted out the robot on more than one occasion, and Trevor kept the energy high by dancing around the store as he dug through the racks.

Laurent on decks.

Trevor takes his turn.

No matter what was playing, it was LOUD. Just the way we like it.

Kerby enjoys the sonic joy from behind the counter.

Thanks for spicing up a rainy Sunday, dudes.
